Sabbatical in Japan 2005
During June and July of 2005 Melissa was in Japan studying Reiki, sokuatsu and acupressure in Japanese.
Reiki is a very gentle method of touch that facilitates balancing of energy and relaxation, often aiding in relief from pain and speeding recovery from injury. Melissa received Level I, II and III certification from a Reiki Master there.
| Sokuatsu is similar to shiatsu, which is a technique unique to Japan that uses specific points and application of sustained pressure to relieve tension and pain. Traditional shiatsu is done mainly with the fingers, hands and elbows. Sokuatsu is done with the feet. |
| Acupressure utilizes the points on the meridians (based on Traditional Chinese Medicine) with finger pressure instead of needles to treat various conditions. Since her time was limited, Melissa focused on the bladder meridian that runs along the sides of the spine down the back. She looks forward to learning more and visiting Japan again. |
