Melissa was born in Jacksonville, NC and grew up in eastern North Carolina.
After graduating from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, she attended Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, earning a Bachelor's of Art degree in East Asian Studies. She also studied in Japan during high school and college. After graduating from college she lived in Japan for four years, teaching English as a Foreign Language. She has experience in other capacities, as a nursing assistant, pianist and piano instructor, and as a translator and interpreter.
Upon completion of the Therapeutic Massage program at Carteret
Community College, Melissa became nationally certified and
licensed in Massage Therapy and Bodywork. (NC License #4402) She serves as vice president of the Business Professional Women's Network and teaches anatomy and physiology for the massage therapy program at Pitt Community College.
She currently lives in Farmville, NC with her husband and two
children.
